Subject: Lightly Veiled Threat
Well, let me see if I got this straight...us poker guys, being the
decent human beings we are, having been a close knit group for better
than a decade, decide to change poker night from Wednesdays to Tuesdays
just so one of our sole mates will be able to attend.
It seems, you see, that said sole mate (who will remain unmentioned at
this time) had other things happening on Wednesdays, unimportant things
like school or even worse (puke) volleyball. OK, who am I to judge. We
all have our little extra curricular activities in life.
Anyway, the brothers get together and agree, for the sake of said other
brother, to change poker night to Tuesday. After all, he ain't heavy,
he's our brother.
Now, that was back in 1997. It is now 1998. The boys are ready to ring
in the new year in style. The date: Tuesday 1/27, The time: 6pm, The
place, Mikies, The attendance: 4.
Excuse me, did I say FOUR, yes , FOUR.
Now how could this happen, how could we go so wrong. Was it poor
communication, a problem with the OPA??? I think NOT. Seems like one of
the beloved six fell ill but no problem, that still leaves five. Five
will work. But five did not happen. How, you ask??
Well, it seems that said unnamed brother decided that he was just a wee
bit too busy to see his friends, after all, he was going bye-bye for a
few days and needed some time to prepare. So, then there were four. Now,
try as we may, four don't cut it.
OK, water under the bridge, we forgive those who become temporarily
insane. It's the compassionate thing to do. Besides, we still have
February to look forward to.
Then it happened. I'm not superstitious but it happened on Friday Feb
13. The e-mail arrived....I'll let brother Dwight tell the story...
> I have Tuesday Feb. 24 on my calendar as the next scheduled Poker game. I
> talked with (name withheld), probably the day after the last game, and told him of the
> next date. He whined that he was so busy all month, and I think he said he was
> going to be away that week. Since he is too busy between volleyball, class and
> all his other extra curricular activities, I say we play without him;
> otherwise we will never play. Obviously we take a back seat to all these other
> things in his life. As long as everyone else shows, it should be okay. A game
> with only 4 people really bites the big one.
>
> If you would like, I may be able to round up another player, at least on a
> temporary basis. Let me know. Also, someone confirm the location of the game.
> I believe we were headed for Dave's.
> Looking forward to a REAL poker game this month.

Well Dwight, I feel your pain. We have been betrayed. Let down. Bruised.
Insulted. Degraded. Tossed out like yesterday's garbage. BY A BROTHER. Is
there anything worse? All this time, I thought he was a GOOD-MAN when he
was actually a QUEI-JO.
